Bringing my car back from Ireland

Hi
I went to The Republic of Ireland in 2018 and due to Covid ect I had to stay there a lot longer than first thought, I took my UK registered car with me and due to having to stay there I had to get it re registered to Irish number plates. I am now back in the UK and still have the same car. Does anyone know what I have to Do to get it back to the English number plates it had on originally? I've tried the DVLA and am getting various stories about what to do. I bought the car in the uk on uk number plates and just want to get the plates back. Help or advice was be much appreciated
