Octopus New Smart Meter = New Tariff ?

Looks like i've been penalised for taking up Octopus' offer of new smart meters last month. They replaced our gas tariff of 3.64 kWh to 7.99 seemingly from the date i requested them.
They emailed about the new tariff at the time but I hadn't noticed the increase until going through it all today as watching the smart meter clock up £11+ / day for a 2 bed bungalow, 3 adults!
Will call them later but wanted to check if anyone had any similar experience. I'm guessing i have no chance of going back to the original tariff!?

If you didn't request a change in tariff and your old one hasn't expired then yes, you should be able to go back onto it...
Which tariff were you on, and which one have you been moved to now?
The names of the tariffs will be shown on your bills and the current one will also be shown on your online account page...

Do you mean they've changed your tariff for your gas from 3.64p/kWh to 7.99p/kWh ? If so, what tariff did they put you on because sounds like fixed rate tariff to me as it's more than the cap?

I can't remember but i suspect the online form for the new meter may have duped me into picking this new tariff :(

For some reason the online account has upped it to 8.39 kWh !

The online form may have offered you a choice of fixed tariffs, but accepting one of them is never linked to having smart meters installed.
I would suggest you call their help line and explain that you have made a mistake and failed to read the email confirmation you were sent and have only just noticed what happened.
There are no exit fees so worst case they should let you cancel and go back to the standard variable tariff, best case they may back-date it for you.

I've also had a few issues with having to stop a Direct Debit that was due to be taken on a random date. The reason they gave was that it was a variable Direct Debit. Never heard of the date of a DD being variable before! but maybe somethings been reset because of that...

Will give them a call and hope for the best. Thanks
