I believe a lot of the EV tariffs also limit the cheap rate to 4 - 5 hours a night - which probably wouldn’t be enough to charge the storage heaters sadly. I’d debated about that sort of tariff previously but reached the conclusion that it wouldn’t quite work for us.

My storage heaters might be oversized for the size of the rooms, I believe I could get away with just 4 hours of charge for all but exceptionally cold nights where I might need more than 30kWh to be stored in that time. The 4 heaters between them can store at a rate of 7.8kW/h so theoretically 3 hours would be enough to store 20 kWh.

This appears to be borne out by my smart meter monitor which shows the heaters drawing little further power after the initial 3 to 4 hours on the off peak rate.

For those few nights you might need a little more 'non- off peak' electricity that tariff would still be a bargain.

As for not owning an electric vehicle, you borrowed one for a week and didn't like it!!! The company are hardly likely to do an audit!!

Depends which supplier, at least one of them requires a copy of the V5, and it isn't hard to spot a discrepancy when you somehow only need to charge it in winter...

if you make full use of the night rate advantage with appliances etc then it might not get picked up as fast - but I suspect the winter "spike" would likely start some questions being asked.

It depends on how motivated they are to keep the cohort 'clean', but it is relatively easy to tell the difference between a steady charging load and the variable load of most other appliances.

... and of course it would be fraud to misrepresent that you own a qualifying vehicle when you do not...
