Deceased cat - continuing insurance liability

Hi,
Our cat was sadly euthanised last month (she was 17 so a good innings). Over the weeks prior to her euthanasia we had made a few visits to the vet in order to try and address her lack of appetite but unfortunatley to no avail so had racked up about £400 of vets bills - she was insured.
We are now in the process of trying to claim back from the insurer the costs of treatment - this is ongoing but the next (final) installment of her insurance premium is due next week and I am unsure what the normal procedure is here, do we cancel the payment as there is no longer any cover required and obviously no further liability to the insurer, or are we liable for the ongoing payment in order to fulfill the existing contract?
I clearly do not want to cancel the payment if that would adversly affect the current claim but neither do I want to pay more to the insurance company unneccessarily when there is still no guarantee of a successful claim.
Thanks

Most policies are annual in nature and if a claim is made the policy cannot be cancelled (or more accurately, no refund for cancelling)... the fact you pay monthly is normally just because you effectively have had a loan for the premiums (in some cases it is actually a loan from an outside finance company).
Speak to the insurer, there are some where its actually a monthly policy with an annual review in which case these ones can be cancelled mid term but they are the minority2 -
Weirdly, and immediately after I started this thread I got an email from the insurer which states :-
'Your policy has been cancelled and any refund due will be issued immediately'
So I will wait and see what happens.0
