Poll started 15 February 2022
With Valentine's Day having just passed, many will have been out for dinner on a nerve-wracking first date. So it's the perfect time for our traditional poll – is it acceptable to use a 2for1 restaurant voucher on a first date? We've asked this in previous years – so let's see if attitudes have changed. (PS: Yes, we know splitting the bill is a valid option too, but that's a poll for another day…)
Imagine Chris asks Joanne to dinner on a first date, offering to pay. When the bill comes, Chris whips out a 2for1 voucher – what advice would you give Joanne?

Joanne doesn't need any advice. I'd be thinking Chris was on the ball, spotting a bargain and that I would have done the very same thing. Also, good for him.
Thank goodness gone are the days when men were expected to pay for women in a patronising way. Although I do feel incredibly guilty for allowing my first serious boyfriend to pay for virtually everything when we went out, many moons ago. He was an apprentice, earning less than me and yet he never would let me pay. I should have insisted. And nowadays I would.
I don't understand why women shouldn't pay for themselves. Or why we ever let our independence lapse so that men could 'treat' us!
Time to live in the 21st century rather than the 1950s.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
