My outside white gas metre box is badly damaged and needs replacing, i have a corgi gas guy in all this week replacing our central heating so can get him to do the box if i can find a replacement.
his usual suppliers and all my googling haven't found one that looks the same as what i have.
The gas board have offered to do the whole thing for £69, but my corgi guy will fit for zero as part of his work here if i can find the box.
It's a 'pull down' door, not the standard that seems to be the only option...
Apparently i don't get it free because we own the house/don't receive benifits.
Can anyone help?

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Most meter boxes are fairly standard - you can buy them at homebase/B&Q.
If you are replacing it, can you use one of the standard types? It might be that the previous tenant built this one themselves.
Your supplier will only offer the same thing - they probably would only put in a standard one.
The box is counted as part of your house, not part of the gas supply.
How was it damaged?0 -

No idea how it was damaged, we've just bought the house and found it like this. It is a standard box, but i'm guessing an old one as all b&q etc sell the side opening door option, and what i need to do a like for like replacement ad save having to change the backboard etc is a flap typeDon’t ask what the world needs. The reason I ask is that if it was damaged by a representative of your supplier (e.g. meter reader) you can get them to pay for the repair, but it doesn't look like it here, sorry.0

Hi there,
It really depends on your local council. In a lot of area's it is their responsability, although they don't like to admit it! I know that if you have a council property the council should replace the meterbox.
Also, if you have a pre-payment meter, be very careful when the meter box is fitted as any bump or bang is likely to shut them off.
And bear in mind where the outlet pipe of the meter runs, ie through the bottom of the box or through the back, as knocking chunks out of the box is not really allowed!
I hope that this is of some help to you
Good luck!0 -
Dangermouse raises a good point there. If the property is LL owned it will likely be the same in that they are liable, not the tenant but work checking the tenancy agreement.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
