Am I still entitled to a refund if I'm unable to return the item?

Nope. Where's your proof it's actually faulty, and that you're just not after a freebie?0

I would be returning the boyfriend because:
1. Who on earth chucks stuff away rather than returning??
2. He accused you of buying cheap Chinese rubbish!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)3 -

If you are still within 30 days of the delivery date the eBay Money Back Guarantee will cover the transaction.
You need to open a returns request, the seller must provide a label for the return and the item then needs to be returned.
Without having the item to return you won’t be able to claim a refund through eBay unless the seller refuses to provide a label.
It’s not the best idea to simply throw something away as the seller is entitled to ask for it to be returned or some sellers may for example request a photo of the item having been destroyed before issuing a refund without a return. The reason for this is obvious really
Sellers are not required to provide postage labels by default, and even in cases where they are eBay will just supply you with a label.0
