Default registered twice for same debt

I defaulted on a Barclaycard in January 2020, however the same debt was sold onto Pra group who have also registered their own default in February 2020. Is this legal? Any tips how to argue this

Thank you

  • The defaults should be the same date really so you can complain and go up to the ICO if needed, but a month isn't really that big of a deal given it's there until 2026 anyway

You may find the original Barclaycard entry disappears shortly, however, as long as the date of default is the same on both entries, the Barclaycard entry shows a zero balance, and the PRA entry shows your outstanding balance, then all is well.

Its common when debts are sold to show an entry from both the original creditor, and the new owner, its just the one default, PRA will continue now with monthly status updates, its not a question of legalities, its just a process that is followed, according to FCA guidelines, so you have no argument, its all as it should be.
