The tiles are probably 4 inch blocks, so you don't knock them out.
Rip all the boards off and then batten out the corners, pull a line through and set the other battens to the line.
  • Thanks @stuart45

The tiles are not 4 inches thick, they are hollow behind like in the image above. The blocks are either side and recessed slightly by about 38mm.

If I have understood what you have said correctly, I can have 2/3 timbers on the side and then maybe 2/1 timber in the middle and level out the other buttons to the level of the 2/1 in the middle?

Levelling out can be done with 18mm plywood?

    Then plasterboard over it all?

Apologies for all the questions and misunderstanding on my part, this is my first time having a go at this and I'm really just pricing everything together (no pun intended).

    Thanks

I can see it more clearly now I'm on the computer. Looks like 4 inch blocks at the sides and flue blocks in the centre slightly proud. Rip the.plasterboard off and see what battens you have. You might be able to just do a fixing for the TV in the wall and tack some new plasterboard up.

Brick tiles? Has confused me slightly. I think it is a precast flue.
No I wouldn’t start hacking away cutting them back, chance you will weaken the wall.
Looking at the photo the batten on the rhs seems flush with the front of them?
So check it’s level/plumb and use that to set the other studs.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone.

I went and got myself a multi cutter and have cut off a lot of the plasterboard today. It's looking good because the two timbers in the middle seem to be perfect to fit a tv bracket on it. Pic below.

Based on everyone's suggestions, I think I'm going to dryline it all and then paint it over.
