Seller is stalling - advice needed

I had my offer accepted at start of Nov 21 at the full asking price. My solicitor worked towards a completion date in early Feb but the day before exchange the seller suddenly said her onward purchase was not ready and had no idea when it would be. She and the agent (who are useless btw) both lied and said there was no chain but there clearly was. How on earth did the solicitors allow it to get to the day before exchange without me knowing this? Who is to blame? Most regrettably the seller is using an online agent (PB) who are aggressive towards me as is the seller and blame everything onto me. I reduced my offer to reflect this and got a barrage of accusations from the agent about how bad I was. IMHO if a seller asks for the full price they should get on with it. I have no idea when this will go through and as I said the agent is useless and frankly does not seem to care. Please help! Thankx

The agent you mention gets paid for advertising the property (and perhaps getting an offer on the property).
They don't get paid for completing the sale - so they may not be bothered whether the sale completes or not.
An EA who gets paid on completion would normally put a lot of effort into sales progression - keeping buyer and seller moving forward; managing communication between buyer and seller to keep everyone calm and informed; and generally resolving problems.
So you just have to form your own opinion about whether the seller is trustworthy, serious about selling, etc. Maybe you want to start looking at other properties to see if anything else good comes along - then consider dropping out of your current purchase.
