For additional transparency(!) also be aware that many of the capped tariffs are even higher than the rise to the capped tariff that's coming in April, so it's very unlikely that they're doing you any favours by offering whatever they are.
If you want to get into seeing the actual prices then you need to look at the individual unit and daily prices of each option.  Unfortunately the monthly payment is not really a guide to anything, this is basically a payment into a pot of your money from which your bills are paid.  It's likely that this will rise whatever option you choose, many suppliers are increasing this in anticipation of the April rise and whatever lies beyond that.
I'd suggest that it may be sensible to make an appointment with Citizens Advice, take along a recent bill and whatever correspondence you've had from them about tariffs.

Which is probably why they have done this.  It's disgusting.  They are the playground school bully.
Under current Ofgem rules all suppliers are obliged to offer customers currently on a fixed tariff, the cheapest fixed tariff options when their current fix is close to expiring.
They don't actually have the option to not offer them and only tell customers about the capped standard variable tariff, but the do have to tell customers that if they do not picked a new fixed tariff then they will be put onto the standard variable tariff. .

  • Contact your local Council for help. They were given money by the Chancellor when he recently announced the £150 rebate on Council Tax and the £200 loan for help with fuel bills. This money is to help people who would otherwise fall through the cracks. Phone the Council and if you can't manage that then ask a neighbour or carer or friend or relative to phone for you.

That may be true.  But the OP said they were told they had to go onto a FRT.  Told, to me, means was part of a verbal conversation.  If they were told this, the SVT must have been mentioned.  If this is true, then it is disgusting and they are the playground school bully.

The original post said they were told they had to go on a fixed tariff to protect them from the next two/four price rises, that is not untrue, but also not the whole story I suspect.
If the OP had responded and engaged with the replies already here we'd have a better idea of the truth about what was actually said and understood from the call.
Without any further engagement from the OP we are left to guess unfortunately and we can't really offer much guidance.
