I have called Barclaycard and explained my situation and asked if they could work something out with me for the next few months until I find a job, they have told me to default on three months payment then they will be in touch to sort a payment plan out. I do not want to default on any payments. Could you please help?

Hello
Who ever told you that from Barclaycard should be shot! A late payment stays on your file for 6 years and WILL effect your ability to get future credit. The slimy gits want to prevent you from moving from them so they can load you up with fees!
Pay what you can afford every month even if it's below the minimum payment this will prevent them from putting a default payment on your file. Then write to their csutomer services advising them of your situation. Mention what you've been told, i am sure that it is not company policy.
While your paying something on time every month they can't do anything and they know that.
They may charge you £12 for paying blow the minimum but at least their not destroying your credit profile which is what i think you don't want happening.0 -
Hi,
Sadly in the world we live in, you have to show that you are indeed in finanical difficulity before they are willing to help, when I was young and oblivious to credit I got the same responce when I lost my job and had a bank loan, and several cards, sorry we cant help you until you have missed payments, which then screws up your credit card, but if you pay less than the minium payment then they will still !!!!!! up your credit file and will only send you letters saying you owe £££ outstanding then if within five months you have not caught up they will default you anyway as you have failed to bring the account to the requested level, it happend with my brother, he owes Halifx 4000 and could only pay £15 a month which wasnt enougth, he paid it anyway only to get letters saying you are still in arrears of £314 please pay this within 7 days to get your account back into good condition low and behold he got a default letter the other day now requesting the full amount back, and now he is in the position that he will have to get a IVA to cover all of his other debt and this default0 -
I would suggest you write to them explaining that you have been made redundant and can't afford to make minimum monthly payments.
Explain that you expect to get a job soon and ask them to freeze interest and fees for six month until you get your new job. Make a token payment (say £5) as recognisition of accepting that you need to pay them back.
Keep copies of eveything you write of course and I would suggest you send by recorded delivery so they can't say your letter didn't arrive.0
