Going rate for car deliveries and experiences
Options
I've been on the look out for a replacement for my current car (Yes I know it is probably not the best time to buy at the moment but putting that aside). There have been a few dealerships who are offering delivery but due to the distance between my home in Scotland and some of the further corners of Engliand, they delivery prices quoted seem a little steep for me.
Having no baseline to compare to as previous car orders have been at local dealerships, for reference, what is the going rate for remote car orders where the delivery distance is in excess of 300 miles? (Before anyone asks, the spec of car I am looking for is either non-existent where I live or the price is even steeper than down south even with delivery added). What experiences have you folks had with remote internet purchases of cars and what "gotchas" do I need to be aware of?

Be aware that if there is anything wrong with the car, you’ll have to pay to transport it back to the supplying dealer to allow them the opportunity to fix it.1

I think a friend paid £600 recently for a journey the opposite way from Aberdeen to SE England. That sounded steep to me but it's a few years since I moved one which cost me £150 for around 120 miles.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Copart are quoting over £950 for a Fiesta from Colchester to Glasgow.
An Astra Whitburn to Glasgow £110 (2-3 years ago that was about £45).
You will get it cheaper but if you use your own delivery company you will carry the risk.
Best get on a plane and fly down and collect.

Just out of curiosity, what delivery companies are out there, how does the cost compare to them and have you had any experience with them?
I have seen adverts for "We Deliver Car" but not sure how trustworthy they are.
Thanks to everyone else for the info so far.

Fuel at £1.50 a litre
£10/hr minimum drivers wages
wear & tear on transporter + insurance & depreciation
profit
Hard to see a 300/300 mile round trip costing much less than £500
last time I did this I spent £25 on a train ticket. I also picked up at midday and invested an hour in driving a big circle around the garage. I’d have driven it back to forecourt if there were problems.
