Facebook scam using Martin's name and image
An ad just popped up on my facebook page and it's obviously a scam. It has Martin's image along with something he's supposed to have said. I've reported it to FB and it seems to have disappeared now but this is just to alert everyone that this kind of thing is still happening.

I'm sure that Martin said no such thing!!

Thank you. Yes, I know that they are not linked to Martin or MSE, that's why I reported it to them, and also to you. Also, many other people who use Facebook may not be aware.MSE_James said:Hello

I've sent a message to the fake ad email address. And have noted the information in the link for future reference. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Are there really people out there gullible enough to believe ads like that are actually true?

YES!! Sorry to have to tell you but there are. (Sad but true). I know at least two people who believe every single thing they're told. By anyone! And if it's got Martin's photo on it well . . .TELLIT01 said:Are there really people out there gullible enough to believe ads like that are actually true?
But aside from that, Martin's asked that we report scams like that, so I did and I have. I'm not assuming that everyone on FB will be aware. Because they won't.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I see a couple of these eachday. Eachtime I send a detailed report to Facebook via the report add button. Facebook must see that its not genuine but either choose to ignore it or the page has been hacked.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0

To be honest, although I am on FB every day, I have never seen one with Martin's face on it. I've seen many other scammy ads advertising all kinds of things though. Especially those ads for help with debt where the company doesn't offer a free service.Merlin139 said:I see a couple of these eachday. I reported this particular one to FB and after I'd pressed the button and returned to the FB page, it had gone. I don't think FB even bother moderating as there are so many users. They rely on mugginses (real word) like us to report to them. Oh well, we can try!

I don’t seem to get any of these sort of adverts. I obviously don’t fit the sort of person they are trying to advertise.

I don't get them either.jon81uk said:I don’t seem to get any of these sort of adverts. I obviously don’t fit the sort of person they are trying to advertise.
But perhaps that's down to my ad blocker.
