Balance transfer from one credit card to another, and back again to avoid Purchase fee

I have one 0% credit card for balance transfers, and another credit card for 0% purchases.  However, because the limit on my purchase one was too low I used my 0% balance transfer one for the purchase.  I have 56 days to clear the balance.  I can transfer the whole amount to my purchase card once I clear the existing balance on it next month, but I can't pay it off in full to avoid the balance transfer fee.  Is it possible to balance transfer part (maybe half) back to the original card to avoid both the purchase fee from the first card and balance fee from the second?  It feels like it's cheating the system but I can't see anything preventing me.  TIA for advice.

  • What is this 'purchase fee' that the card is going to charge you? Any fees involved in purchases are incurred at the time of purchase - eg forex or cash fees.  Likewise, BT fees are charged at the time of the BT.

As long as you understand what fees you'll be charged, you can BT between cards (not from the same stable) as long as you have the headroom and the cards allow it.
