So i had my offer accepted on the 5th of October the old couple selling the house are moving in a bungalow that his father had and passed away. My solicitor told me before Christmas to transfer funds from savings to my account now 7 weeks into new year nothings happening i keep emailing and ringing solicitors and I’ve still not got a completion date in place! Surely it shouldn’t be taking this long now. Very frustrating.

If they'd exchanged, then presumably they'd have a fixed completion date in place.....

It can take a couple of days to review a file, because the solicitor keeps getting interrupted by clients calling for updates.2

Nothing wrong with wanting to know what’s happening. It would be nice to plan thingsGoogleMeNow said:It can take a couple of days to review a file, because the solicitor keeps getting interrupted by clients calling for updates.0 -
I hate to break it to you, but going from offer to exchange in 4 months is pretty good going. We took a little over 8 months to exchange on ours, and that isn't an uncommon amount of time. I don't think there is anything wrong with a bit of pushing, and I sent quite a strongly worded mail at one point where I felt we were being mucked around, but outside of this I just let the process happen. It ultimately is in everyone's interests for things to happen as quickly as possible. The estate agent and solicitor get their payments, you get your property, the vendors get theirs. The only people who can tell you what the anticipated completion date is going to be are your legal representatives and your vendor's. If you read through the 2000 or so page long waiting to exchange thread you will find people in there who exchanged at a month in and those still waiting over a year later. It is crap. It is far from a pleasant process. It is unfortunately what it is and nobody here is going to be able to suggest if 7 weeks is a long time or not in your n=1 case.1
