I think the below is a whole different question but I think it's also one where everyone needs to be on the same page

If for example I worked full time with 2 kids and owned a house and was eating my cavier for lunch, but my brother was previously homeless with 1 kid, chose not to work and his life decisions were all round poor I'd be pretty miffed if my parents rewarded that by giving him their house.

However, if I worked full time with 2 kids and my brother was homeless, with 1 kid. Had been working but chose to be a stay at home dad with the intention of going back to work and not relying on the bank of mum and dad forever Id have far more respect for the decision.

Also if said brother had a disability preventing him from working or whatever then again totally on board

If I were the then to get divorced and be living in an unaffordable rental with children and running out at the end of each pay cheque, I'd be devestated to know my parents favoured one sibling over another in their will.

I do understand the not giving everyone equal shares based on their wealth (if it's legitimate wealth). But I also think there should be no surprises as it could hinder relationships.

So much can change in life.

Or grandkids inheriting is an alternative.

The above scenarios are ficticious. It's 50/50 for us regardless of our circumstances.

However, by way of a (highly exaggerated) analogy, is it appropriate to give exactly the same financial support to the child eating caviar for lunch as I give to the child who is homeless?'
