EDF says they can’t fit smart meter
I was moved to EDF from Utility Point and plan to get a battery storage. To make the most of this I need a smart meter so I can go onto more flexible tariffs. But EDF say I can’t have one yet. I’ve asked them to do a WAN test and they say they have and I don’t have a signal, I asked if they visited the location they said no.
anyway Octopus are saying they can fit one. What gives I don’t live in the middle of no where and get a signal on O2 and Vodafone ok.
who can I turn to for help?

Why not (when the present situation) has settled switch to Octopus ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

who can I turn to for help?Octopus would seem like the obvious choice, but only if you also have an EV.Right now battery only will not guarantee that you can get onto the cheaper tariffs like 'Go' or 'Go Faster' as they list an EV as a requirement. If you do have an EV then follow the links on the Octopus web page for switching and you'll get to a phone number, call them and odds are they will let you switch even now...

Is there an appeal process you can enter into with EDF, or at least make further enquiries to find out on what basis they are saying you have no signal? It *could* be that Octopus are saying yes without having actually checked that you're suitable, while EDF already have experience of having tried with a customer nearby, perhaps? I would have thought that all suppliers would carry out a desktop analysis of signal strength in a given area before agreeing to fit a smart meter. It is possible that EDF has actual experience of reception in a particular area. Given that all suppliers are under the Ofgem cosh to fit smart meters then I would assume that turning down a requested installation would be unusual.0

our area about 5 years ago was quite bad for mobile signals. but now i can get data, albeit slow even indoors.0

@cypher007 Which part of the country are you living in? Are you sure your SM would use GSM or the dedicated Aqiva radio network in the North?
When we 1st had a SM installed, they couldn't get an Aqiva signal and had to give up. A year later Aqiva had installed a local mast and we were able to get the meter fitted.0 -

Bit difficult to see, but South Lincs looks like it might be in the O2 coverage area
