Windows 11

Hey people,

I recently received notification about windows 11 on my gaming laptop. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade, however I don't know if this will affect my game in any way.

I'm currently playing GTA 5 through the rockstar games launcher on pc. I will back everything up however I don't know if it will still be compatible.

Thanks

Try it.  You can always roll back.

When I updated to W11 it made no difference whatsoever to any of my games. :) But obviously make sure you do a backup of all your data beforehand.

I believe you only have a few days to decide you wish to roll back.  We tried a couple at work and it offered a roll back for (I think) 10 days.

We did a roll back on one and it did it really quick and didnt lose anything (however, I would still recommend a back up  of your files first)

    Yeah, that can be fixed:

You can't set some ridiculous figure, I can't remember what I used now.  But it was that command, and it was higher than 10 days.

The problem with rolling back after a longer period is that more changes are likely to have been made to the system which may well result in issues when having rolled back. W11 certainly has things which are not ideal (I hate they way the keep dumbing down all the admin/menu systems) but they can be bypassed and I have not had any issues with it so far despite having it on my work laptop since November (which is used heavily, for multiple tasks).

The main thing I didn't like was the change to the File Explorer context menus - but that was easily reverted to the W10 version. :)

  • I would not advise sticking with Windows 11 for various reasons. It is known that we are all guinea-pigs when Microsoft releases a new system. As regards Windows 11 specifically, Linus Tech Tips on Youtube shows how it causes his screens to go black, creates problems in game multiplayer mode and I have read that it can freeze the game. Moreover, you cannot bring up anything on the taskbar when in game mode. So, I would stick with Windows 10 as most problems have been ironed out by now and there is security support up to and incl. 2025. Hope this helps.

Agreed. And of course Linus doesn't have any axe to grind re. Windows in general (vs Linux) anyway, does he. 🙄
