ScottishPowerwill not send me details of how to move to capped standard variable tariff in March?
We are on a fixed rate tariff with SP that is due to end in March, when that ends will we automatically go onto the capped standard variable tariff or can they switch us to one of their fixed rate tariffs?
I contacted SP and asked the question and all they did was send me a link to a number of fixed rate tariffs that range from £2967.87 to £4090.79 a year (we currently pay around £1200 a year). I asked the question again and they have not replied... This is really annoying and it would seem that the providers are trying to force customers onto expensive fixed rate tariffs.
Thanks in advance.

You go onto the capped rate by default if you dont agree to anything else.
Therefore, dont agree to anything.1 -
It is on their website that when your fix ends you get put onto the standard rate (which will now be capped).1

Because it is not on "offer", it's the default tariff if you are not on a fixed.0

I appreciate that, but do you think most consumers are aware, I wonder how many will select an offer (assuming it is the best deal) without realising that they can go on a default tariff?TadleyBaggie said:Because it is not on "offer", it's the default tariff if you are not on a fixed.0 -
Martin Lewis has been very vocal with his "do nothing" message.2

If only there were some sort of official office that could be set up to regulate the energy markets on behalf of consumers to prevent them being scammed...1

That would be nice. Until that happens we only have OFGEM which, along with all the other OF's, are completely useless at regulating and only react.Gerry1 said:If only there were some sort of official office that could be set up to regulate the energy markets on behalf of consumers to prevent them being scammed...

In the unlikely event that Ofgem reacts to anything, it'll be too little and several years too late.molerat said:

I'm with SP and my fixed is ending this month - on the website it shows me a customer exclusive fixed tariff that will be below the new capped rates in April, so i will be switching to this.
I would advise to look again at the end of the month and see if you have a customer exclusive tariff appear.
Best way to get hold of SP if you need to is by messaging via twitter, replies are very rapid.0
