Yorkshire Building Society charges

Question! If you don't already know, Yorkshire Building Society has withdrawn cashpoint cards, standing orders and direct debit facilities for it's members. Cash cards went in December. No new SO or DDs can be created and the facility to use existing ones ends in June 2022.
I had it explained to me that this is because the YBS has offered these facilities in line with how a bank would and yet it is not a bank. It was also explained to me that clearing fees etc had not been aid by them (as a bank would)and as such, it has withdrawn the lot.
If this is indeed true, what about all the failed DD charges it asked it's customers to pay over the many years for which it has offered this facility? Can members be refunded with these? I know that I for one, have had a mortgage with them since the early 1990s and since that time, have always had my other household bills and payments taken by DD or SO from the YBS account which I hold. A substantial time for them to have offered DD and SO when in theory they should not have and furthermore, make charges for missed DD payments for anybody who had financial hiccups month to month. Anybody know if they are addressing this please?

Sounds like some sort of misunderstanding when you were talking to them, but, even if it was true that YBS hadn't paid due fees to suppliers or partners, that has absolutely no bearing on their imposition of legitimate charges to customers! Find a proper bank and move on....4

According to the YBS website, direct debits can still be set up
