Council tax energy rebate
Hi. A lady I keep an eye on has asked me a question I cannot answer. Perhaps some out there knows. She is on pension credit AND housing benifit, therefore does not pay council tax. How will she recieve the the £150 the government is saying is available? Many thanks.

I've not seen the details published yet, but the question was asked about those who received a partial/full credit against the council tax which brought them below £150 and the answer was that they would still get the full £150.How exactly, remains to be seen...1

It looks like the £150 isn’t taken off the council tax bill but given as a separate payment via bank transfer to be used to help with energy costs. So it basically sounds like anyone in band A-D is going to get £150 paid into their bank account & they can use it for whatever they want1

Could you provide a link to the source of this please? Our council seem to be giving the impression it will be taken off each monthly payment at the rate of £15 a month for those of us on 10 monthly instalments. Regardless, in a lot of households it won’t end up getting anywhere near an energy account as it will be swallowed up in an overdraft first.Curiousgirl1 said:It looks like the £150 isn’t taken off the council tax bill but given as a separate payment via bank transfer to be used to help with energy costs. I suspect that your council may be right.EssexHebridean said:

The £150 will shows as a credit on your council tax bill, similar to how a 25% single occupancy discount may.
As such, the net amount, after credits, will be the sum that is divided between the 10 or 12 monthly payments, effectively splitting this "support" too.
But then we pay our energy bills monthly, don't we?0
