Esa experience

Options
My husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and we applied on July 16th for esa. We just heard today he’s been placed in support group. No medical assessment and not had award letter but 700 pounds was placed in his bank account and when I called to query was told award letter on the way and dated until April 2030. Can now get council tax reduction applied.

just to wait on pip now but that only went in November.

thanks for everyone’s support here.

  • That's excellent news!  Is April 2030 when he reaches state pension age?

Have you looked at the SMI disregard (which leads to a council tax discount) - this is not the same as Council Tax Reduction.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Thanks. Unfortunately he will only be 61 but it feels like a long time away. We’re in scotland and it is the smi. I spoke to them today and they will back date it to July too which is good news. Finally feel like we’re making some progress.
