Don't know about the 'no surcharge' bit but Martin wants a rethink of the loan-not-loan scheme.jimjames said:
How do you work that out?PennineAcute said:If Martin gets his way there will be no £200 and no surcharge on tariffs come April '23.

I don't think an opt-out option is the way to go personally, as that will just make it more expensive to administer and for those who want to opt out there really isn't a big issue from not doing so. I won't be signing the petition.
Scrapping the whole idea and replacing it with something more targeted to those who really need the support is what I'd like to see.2 -

Same old arguments and is getting quite silly. Our tariffs include a payment towards the WHD. What about the people who do not get WHD?

I'm confused what your point is? The WHD is targeted support for those who most need it, whereas the £200 'loan' that the petition is about is being 'given' to every household.PennineAcute said:Daliah said:There is now a petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/608007

People are saying what about the children of a household (or similar) who may move from non bill payer before the £200 is made to bill payer after the £200 is made, and will therefore pay for something which they have not received. Say a couple splitting up after the payment is made, then these two people, now seperate bill payers, would pay back twice what they received.
Now compare this to everyone contributing to the £140 payments for people who are eligible and receive the WHD. All households are contributing to this £140, which some receive and some not.
Come April next year, yes, some people may be paying for something they did not receive. However, people, quite rightly, do not complain about contributing and not being able to receive WHD so why complain about this, when it is exactly the same.
Their arguments have been counteracted many a time since the announcement for the £200. It's becoming like a looped recording.

Yes, I understand all that. The point of the petition though is to allow people to opt-out, which won't address the other issues.PennineAcute said:Ultrasonic said:

I know - I did read it. That the text doesn't match what the petition is actually asking for is yet another, different issuePennineAcute said:Ultrasonic said:

Funny how all the people making the “what about children leaving home or people spiltting up” argument conveniently forget about people dying and those moving in together, isn’t it…
I’m afraid I agree that I won’t be signing the petition - it simply seems to be driving towards a “solution” that may just mean those who DON’T opt out - because perhaps they desperately need that extra help right now and are pinning their hopes on making savings elsewhere down the line to cover paying it back - are going to end up having to pay back more than the £200 they’ve been given in order to cover the additional costs being created.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
