Travel Insurance Query

is there an issue being insured twice ?

I currently have my own European travel insurance policy (annual policy)

I'm looking at getting a group policy to include myself, wife* and daughter (over 18)

** the issue being I have to declare medical conditions for my wife. (pulmonary embolism & asthma)

if I get a single policy for the wife, and heaven forbid something happened would I be covered on my policy alone or would I need to joint policy.

any help/advice would be apricated.

Thanks

Other than it possibly being a waste of money there are no major issues... you cannot claim off multiple policies however.

With other classes of insurance it can cause some delays whilst the insurers negotiate how they will share the costs but other than for luggage claims travel insurers dont tend to dig into it too much... luggage claims are fairly often already a case of double insurance because many Home policies may also cover it if you've included Personal Possessions cover.

Given the number of current accounts etc that bundle "free" travel insurance its not that uncommon for people to have more than one policy.

    Thanks for the response.

My only concern was if something happened to one of us abroad and we each had a separate travel insurance policy.

would the other policy cover it, in so much as the other person would have to stay out there with them.

My other half suffers from mild and occasional asthma and this was declared - it has had no extra premium impact on our policy.
Unless your wife has more chronic asthma you might find a similar scenario applies - the other condition of course is another matter.
You should call your preferred travel insurance company and ask for guidance  - they'll advise accordingly.

You would need to read the policy of the person that was sick/injured, it may cover the cost of someone staying with them but it is normally at the insurer's sole discretion of if its "necessary"
