Personally I think speed limit notifications should be on by default (eg the over speed alert) but that speed camera notifications should be banned. That way if people are speeding then they know, but they run a greater risk of being caught if they choose to speed.danrv said:
Speed camera alerts would be useful. Got caught out with ongoing temporary roadworks on a local main road.MattMattMattUK said:
Maps also reports broken down cars as well as mobile and fixed speed cameras, although it does not report .Deleted_User said:
Waze is free and a real contender in the sat nav game, personally I'd say it is better than Google Maps - it tells you about hazards ranging from pot holes to broke down cars as well as the presence of police and mobile speed cameras.MattMattMattUK said:
None of the alternatives are as good as Google Maps, which has the added benefit of being free.danrv said:

Didn’t know about that.
50mph limit with cameras but not sure if these are fixed or just there for the duration of the work.
i have ‘Speed limits’ turned on in settings.0 -
So would you also ban Speed Camera notification signage? Paint the cameras in camouflage rather than bright yellow?
They are there primarily to reduce car speed not to catch speeders (although they do that too).2 -

Yes, because all they generally do is cause speeders to slam on their breaks, then floor the accelerator after the camera, the only ones that seem to work when advertised are the average speed cameras.flaneurs_lobster said:So would you also ban Speed Camera notification signage? Speeders do not slow down universally because of cameras, they only slow down for the camera. Increasing the amount of times people are fined it will make them more likely to moderate their behaviour over time, especially if the fines and points become regular and they get close to losing their license.0 -
Think that we are both hypothesising about a situation about which neither of us have any experience since, of course, neither of us have ever exceeded the speed limit.
We're both seriously off-topic, resurrecting old sat-nav kit.1 -

Have a look at what memory capacity your device has too -- probably quite small by modern standards so might be limited in what maps it can downloaddanrv said:Have looked a bit into SatNav vs Google Maps or app.
It’s the map updates for standalone SatNavs that I’m not sure about. I guess it’s like buying a new road atlas but more expensive.
The Garmin ones state lifetime updates but I think they’re only available once you’ve paid an extra fee.1 -
Also, you could probably find a generic replacement speaker much cheaper on ebay etc.1

There’s a memory card slot but not sure what capacity card it takes.coffeehound said:

There’s a couple of speakers available here that are the same as the broken one.coffeehound said:Also, you could probably find a generic replacement speaker much cheaper on ebay etc.
The others for £17.99 on EBay mentioned before are used.

I’ll see if it connects to the software. Might be worth repairing as the minimum cost for a new one would be £90.1 -
Having put the original speaker back in, the sound quality has improved.
Main problem is getting the PC to recognise the Navman.
Have tried getting updated software but W10 says ‘Microsoft ActiveSync can’t run on this device’.
Recommends to get Windows Mobile Device Centre from Windows Update.
It’s probably too old. I may contact Navman to see if they can help.0 -

Waze is annoying because it puts stupid big adverts in the way at the complete wrong moment. Well any moment is the wrong moment but still.[Deleted User] said:
