Hi all, just dropped my nearly new (6 months old) Lenovo yoga laptop, it looks perfect except a slight buckle in the case beside the on switch and not switching on, best thing to do. Take it to the vendor (Jphn Lewis) or raise an insurance claim.

Depends. Do you have accidental damage cover with either John Lewis or your insurance company?1

If you have accidental damage on your home insurance you can probably claim through that.John Lewis will probably tell you one of three things:1) Not our problem, you dropped it, so go forth and multiply2) We'll see what we can do but it will be chargeable as you dropped it.3) (if you have suitable insurance/warranty for accidental damage that you bought when you bought the hunit) leave it with us.1

Most warranties specifically exclude accidental damage although some credit card companies do (or did) include it for a short period after purchase.
Generally, it's the house contents insurance that you'd use to claim, assuming that it includes accidental damage cover (not all do, so you'd need to check your insurance documents)Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Checked my insurance and not covered, desktop is but laptop no, next question, best place to take it for repair.

Desktops are much cheaper to repair. You can get a case for £30. I have had my case for 26 years and it's still in good condition. It's good to know that if I dropped it I could claim on the insurance.barnaclebill said:Checked my insurance and not covered, desktop is but laptop no, next question, best place to take it for repair.0 -
Update, took it to a Which approved repair company, just had the report, needs a new motherboard £310.00 plus £75.00 to fit plus VAT. Not sure if its going to be worth it, laptop cost £800,00 seven months ago and was in the to ten laptops in Which tests. Do I go for it or cut my losses and buy a cheap tablet, would the old laptop have any value still have the unused magic pen to write on the screen with.

As long as the repair comes with a decent (12mth?) warranty I'd go for it but then I hate perfectly good kit going to WEEE.
I had the motherboard replaced in a 5 year old HP Envy laptop a couple of years ago and it was £240, so the cost seems same ballpark given yours is more recent.1 -
There seems to be a Yoga sale on? Google Lenovo Yoga0

Did they say what is wrong with the motherboard?barnaclebill said:Update, took it to a Which approved repair company, just had the report, needs a new motherboard £310.00 plus £75.00 to fit plus VAT.
