Hi,
the cable from my sky dish into the room has been cut (done by previous owner). There is about 7 inches left.
I wanted to get free sat as Virgin Media prices have sky rocketed. Can I just put a connector onto the cable and extend it?
I dont really want to get someone in to put new cable from the Sky dish as im sure it wont be cheap so was just seeing if it was something I could do myself?

Why can you not run a new cable from the dish yourself. Much easier than joining ends (well less screw threaded things to add!).0

It would mean climbing a ladder outside and im not sure I could manage it, I also dont have a long ladder otherwise I would give it a go.0

What sky dish have you got as the LNB may not be compatible with a Freesat device and need changing, in which case you may as well change the cable at the same time.
You can get connectors to extend the cable and it will most likely work, but better to do the job properly.0 -
Being a 50 year old lady I didnt know there were different types lol!!! maybe an engineer is the way to go.0

Yes, you can just extend the cable quite easily. Put an F-Connector on the end of the cable then use a F-Connector coupler. This kit from ebay gives you an idea of what you need :Then just buy a F-connector cable like this :If you have a screwfix near you :

Check the cable diameter on the ones there first:
There are two basic sizes and the F-plugs need to match the cable size-wise to be a good connection.
THIN WF65 shotgun cable circa 4 mm dia each as linked to above of THICK WF100 6.5mm diameter Toolstation do similar plugs far cheaper than Screwfix. https://www.toolstation.com/proception-inline-coupler/p97650 and https://www.toolstation.com/proception-f-plug/p56253 (has drop down to the thin shotgun types, too)
