Ceramic lot20 heaters
Does anyone know how good ceramic lot20 heaters actually are in comparison to running a gas fire 24hrs a day? They advertise saying the ceramic stays hot giving off heat so you only need them on for a few minutes every hour. Is this true?
I live in an old terrace (2 up 2 down) and we have gas fires downstairs that are on constantly 24 hrs a day. As it's open plan this works to keep the house fairly warm.
We also have small electric panel heaters in the bedrooms for when it is very cold.
The gas fires are newish (2 yrs old) and are supposed to be 85% efficient.
We looked at gas central heating but as the government are trying to stop installation in new homes from 2025 we wondered what is the best alternative?

Don't even think of using daytime electricity for heating if you have gas. Running costs of gas central heating with wet radiators will be about a quarter of anything that uses daytime electricity. Forget whether these electric devices are filled with magic dust, moon rock, snake oil or anything else, you can't get out more than you put in.You need deep pockets if you want to go green, and even then it may not really be as green as you think.1

The gas fires are newish (2 yrs old) and are supposed to be 85% efficient. To get 1kWh of heat from an 85% efficient gas fire, you will need to burn 1.175kWh of mains gas.- At the current capped tariff of 4.1p/kWh that will cost 4.8p.
- At the April capped tariff of 7.3p/kWh it will cost 8.6p.
To get 1kWh of heat from an 100% efficient electric heater, you will need to use 1kWh of mains electricity. So electricity is currently 4x as expensive as gas, and will still be 3x as expensive in April.- At the current capped tariff of 21p/kWh that will cost 21p.
- At the April capped tariff of 28p/kWh it will cost 28p.
