a minor issue that annoys me about etsy

There are a number of things that annoy me about etsy, but one of them is this warning message when I am trying to charge postage of £4.25 for a large fragile glass item listed for £45.

'Etsy shoppers are looking for a postage price of £2.25 or less for items priced like this'

Fine, if you expect me to be able to post this safely and insured for £2.25 (from which fees will be taken) please show me the service I should use!

  • I can understand why that would annoy.
As just a buyer, on there and ebay, i feel bad for the sellers on occasions like this.

It's unrealistic to expect that everything on Etsy could be posted safely for under that amount, I would find it annoying too.

I would be tempted to send them a nice email as high up the chain as possible.

Rant about the true value of postage to send an item properly packaged and that your selling quality
items that need protecting not the cheap bulk tat sold by many sellers.

Rarely used Etsy at all now, too much antique/unique stuff being sold brand new by the pallet full.

Unless I am missing something, next time list it at £47 plus £2.25 postage?

    Both total £49.25

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • I regularly buy on Esty but I've never sold on there. I prefer to see "Free UK delivery" as otherwise you have to click on the listing and then scroll down to see the postage cost. I've never played with the viewing settings so maybe there's a way to see postage costs without clicking on the item?

I usually do list with ‘Included postage’ but like to vary it a bit to see what sells best. On this occasion similar items were listed with postage as an extra charge so my headline figure looked higher.

However, I’ve gone back to listing on Etsy with ‘free postage’ only.
