Business connected to my residential meter

  • Thanks for all your advice.

I am paying 20%.  I told them to accept that or I would switch them off.  They have never agreed but paid me when I've send them the bill.
My heating is Gas so that is separate.  The shop only has electricity.
There is just one switch on my board that turns them off and I stay on.  Its actually their attitude, that I should be doing this.  The lady that works for the landlord is useless and goes along with them.   My problem is the money Bulb expect me to pay upfront to cover the Electricity bill.  Quite often I have to chase them to pay.  I think it's because they have been there 6 years and have got away without paying an electricity bill as the previously tennant hadn't paid any bills.  The property wasn't even registered with the council when I moved in and was built around 8 years ago!  The council accepted and not bothering to come out (due to covid) old plans that was in fact for a shop extention as the property but that's another story!
I have written to both LL and EA and mentioned the increases and I will not pay to cover and their electrician came back and said energy suppliers weren't installing meter due to the energy situation, that was in October!!

  • I think you have a handful of options here:
    1) move (possibly far from ideal I imagine)
    2) Accept the situation as is, and perhaps negotiate some money up front from the commercial property as time goes on and the bills go up
    3) contact the LL again politely saying that you understand the situation as it stands re meter installations and perhaps they would be good enough to let you have copies of the correspondence with the supplier trying to get this sorted out, or maybe they would prefer you to go directly to the supplier yourself to try to get resolution..? (I'm guessing they wont want to risk this as it means their shoddy game with having the shop on a domestic meter will be brought into the open).

Switch them off and let them do the talking. The EE and the LL appear to be in the wrong. It shouldn't be your problem.
