The temperatures in parts of Scotland are far colder than in Hertfordshire.
Quite mild at the moment but in December there were days when it stayed well below freezing both day and night.  From our weather station in the garden, note the "high" of -7.7 on that day ..

Disclaimer, if you have Raynaud's disease, or think you suffer from Raynaud's syndrome or just have bad circulation this post is probably not for you.

    Sorted😜

I think those us with Reynauds are already well aware of this (and yes, I've been following the thread from the start and think I've read all of it) and decided that for ourselves very early on - but there is a persistent view that all we need to do to fix that is wear an extra vest!

OK, so all there is left to say, is that saving a fortune on energy costs like I enjoy doing is almost certainly not for anyone suffering from certain medical conditions.

You have not read this thread at all if you think it's about wearing one extra vest

More than one way to skin a cat, i'll stick to heating the house for free with 2 of us at home all day & save money by not buying  2 sets of extra cold weather clothing.

Oh for heaven's sake - that was meant to be a little bit tongue in cheek.  I have read the thread and I do truly get it.  It just isn't for me and I think I would be very miserable indeed living that way.  But there are certainly good takeaway ideas for people who really can't afford heating to their desired level, about the types of clothing that would keep them warmest - or hitting a compromise between the extremes.   But I also suspect that those in real difficulty would also find it hard to justify spending on extra clothes, especially families etc.

But I also think @HertsLad must have a particularly suitable metabolism, constitution and lifestyle, as I doubt very many people could take it to the extremes that he does and remain cheerful about it.  I just hope that for him, the skiing trips are truly worth the sacrifice.

    You dafty lol

I suspect he has a normal metabolism and being male helps. As I have said Mrs mstty suffers for chilblains and bad circulation so I know how polar opposite we can be when it comes to comfort levels. I only have to go back to skiing 8 hours a day and never getting cold and that wasn't wearing the layers hertslad is in fact very few indeed and then Mrs mstty 4 layers and frozen to the core needing a hot chocolate quick every run.

The country is facing a notional average energy bill of £3000 for the year Apr 2023-Mar 2024. If they can, are are willing to take a few steps towards less heat and keeping warm with the right layers then this post may help them. Not the extreme that Hertslad goes to but a compromise when needs must.

Interesting thanks! Since figuring out how to stay warm at home, I now know how to stay warmer on the ski slopes. But I sometimes still get cold feet, which I don't really understand. I just packed chemical warming packs to put into my ski boots.

Mrs mstty wears those chemical.heat pads on a night out.

I wear waterproof seemless calf length socks when skiing, none of the soggy wet cold feet, you could put your chemical pads in those and be toasty all day. £15 when I bought two pairs 5 years ago.
