Impending price hike

With all the talk of a 54% price rise in April....that really only applies to people who are currently on their suppliers standard variable rates.

Anyone who is currently on a fixed term deal may see a price increase significantly higher.

I received my bill today from British Gas (I was with Peoples Energy, so am currently on "The Peoples Energy" tariffs).
I also had a look at the tariffs on offer from British Gas.

Over all, my December/Jan bill would be 88% more expensive
Gas Standing Charge - up 71%
Gas unit rate - up 100%
Electric standing charge - up 77%
Electric rate - up 77%

ANyone know what British Gas current "standard" tariffs are ??

Well yes, you'll get a price hike from your fixed term to the cap, and then the price rise from the cap to the new cap, unless you find another deal which is cheaper than the new cap.
British Gas current "standard" tariffs will typically be the same as everyone elses - ie, the cap. Typically 20.773p per kWh electric, 4.187p per kWh gas, and standing charges of 23.307p and 26.123p respectively.

But those on a fix have also had the benefit of far cheaper rates until that fix ends...I certainly wish I'd been in a position to fix at the right time - and indeed not lost the fix I had thanks to supplier going under!

The tarriff you are on will be the cheapest.
the bad news is that you haven’t had the 54% April price cap yet.

there is a loophole if you are willing to try the chat about a dozen times where they are incorrectly giving cheaper tariffs.
it takes a while as you have to find a chat agent who makes a mistake.

The People's Tariff is set at the current Ofgem cap. It is the same tariff as the standard variable, bit with a different name.

Those are Eastern region numbers, excluding VAT. Those numbers match the current Ofgem price cap and are identical to BG's standard variable tariff.

At this point while reading this post, I was filled with a slight optimism. Intrigued by the possibility that what was to be mentioned next was going to be about people on other rates getting a better deal.

Anyone who is currently on a fixed term deal may see a price increase significantly higher.

This is what happened inside my brain.

    more grim stuff etc....
