Moved house - no energy supplier since April 2021
Hello All
We moved house in April last year. I took meter readings for both gas, electricity and water on the day we moved in. However I have never signed up with any energy supplier, I had assumed the energy supplier of the previous owner would takeover but as it turns out they did not. I now have 10 months usage without a bill.... I'm not so concerned about the large bill I will receive but I wanted to know how best to move forward. I don't want to be stung with the current energy prices for the full 10 months as the first 6 months usage would have been when the energy prices were much lower than they are today.
Does any one know how energy suppliers will price us for this? Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks,
C

Find out your energy suppliers and register with them today. Don't be forced on to a fixed tariff.2

You don't have an account! Of course they can't bill you as the account holder when you don't have an account. You were supposed to contact your supplier to make an account and arrange how you will pay. I would suggest you do it today. I would think the energy you have used will be charged at what their rates were at the time it was used, although since you didn't choose a plan it might be at whatever default rate they consider appropriate (or might all be charged at the cap price today!).
Over the past nine months it hasn't just been a case of "energy from XYZ power costs £0.18 per kilowatt hour" - people made selections by selecting a plan, for example, paying 14 pence with a higher daily standing charge, or paying 20 pence but having their price fixed for 12 months, or paying 23 pence but it's all renewable energy. You didn't make a selection so they might nominate an arbitrary rate and it's unlikely you'll get any say on which one it is.
The billing will exist, it just isn't yet matched to the person using it. The later you contact them, the greater the chance that it's all charged at the current (or future) higher rate. Delaying this is not in your interests.0 -
