I Don't Want Government £200 Energy Loan

Then your only choice is to completely disconnect from the electric and gas network by October. Good luck with that.6

You'll be having it and repaying it, just like everyone else in the country.1 -
I suspect that if Rishi had instead said that the Government was going to loan the energy companies an amount linked to the number of customers they have people would not be getting so exercised by it.
If you don't want it, do what Tadley says.0 -
Socialism doesn't work if you allow people to opt out. Everyone has to suffer.3

if this is all you have to worry about then you're doing okDakota_2 said:I don't want the government interfering in my financial affairs period. Whose to say that when they claw it back energy prices have risen even higher so you get £40 added to an even more astronomical energy bill? Thanks but no thanks.

Saw his video on TikTok the other day.
I don't particularly want it but 200 in, 200 out.
Feel sorry for those he mentioned who don't yet pay bills who will have to 'pay it back' regardless when they get their own place after the 200 is 'given' - so effectively paying back a loan they never had. Ouch.1 -
That's fine then as the government won't be interfering in your financial affairs (any more than they already do, obviously).Dakota_2 said:I don't want the government interfering in my financial affairs period. Best suggestion I can give is that when the £200 hits your energy account you transfer the same sum to a charity of your choice, thus removing the filthy lucre from your own environs. You'll still have to pay the levy when it hits the following year and the years thereafter but you can view that (correctly) as the cost of assisting those in more need than yourself - what a lovely unselfish approach to take THAT would be! It's been rumored that some energy companies will allow you opt out of having the £200, but you'll still have the £40/year added to your bills, just like everyone else.

Such is life, in all things there are those that give but don't get to take, those that take and don't get to give, and most people who give and take.JustAnotherSaver said:Saw his video on TikTok the other day.

And on the flip side - what about the people currently living on their own who subsequently (after March 2023) move in with a partner - they will have gained 2 x £200 and only be paying back 1? Or those currently living alone in a bedsit who move to a house-share with others? Or those who die and won't have anything reclaimed from their estates? Or those who move into a care facility and never have to pay back the £200 because they no longer have an energy account...
