Insurance cover for UK trips (cancellation ) post Covid

Options
Prior to Covid, any UK booked trips were covered by the fact that I had an annual policy for overseas holidays. It wasn't usually possible to cover for a UK only single trip.  I haven't yet booked a trip abroad and, even if I do, it may be a single trip so not worth buying annual cover.  I would like to book a UK trip but I am concerned about how to cover for potential cancellation due to illness (or any other emergency). How are others getting round this?  I have booked 1 short trip but will lose the cost of the accommodation if I cancel under 1 week before the event so that wouldn't be much good if I tested positive on the day.  I have had Covid with very mild symptoms just like a cold so, in pre Covid times, I would ignore it and go on the trip but......

You can buy travel insurance for UK only.

It will not cover medical expenses as these would be covered by NHS.

I am just trying to cover cancellation due to last minute Covid symptoms/positive test  (or any other illness/emergency) just before departure.

It’s very good and public spirited of you to be prepared to cancel your holiday.
however make sure you are careful with any cover you buy.
insurance hardly ever covers for disinclination (apart from serious illness or death).
insurance generally only covers you if you can’t go.
soon there will not be a requirement to cancel due to covid infection.
Im not making any moral judgments, simply saying you might not be covered for choosing to cancel rather than there being a requirement to.
