Help - AJJB Law Debt Collection Chasing Me for a fully Paid bill from Together Energy

Hi I moved recently and was with Together Energy at my old address. Together Energy were trying to bill me for an extra 3 months after I moved out so the bill was too high, after some time they revised the bill to the correct date.I paid the bill via my bank account.

When I checked on my account a week later the bill was still showing as unpaid and I started receiving debt collection texts.

I emailed Together Energy and asked them to credit my account with the money I had paid.

I had no response but maybe 5 days later I could see they had updated receiving the money, they showed it as a cash payment next to the bill. A good 2 weeks after receiving it via Faster Payments, same Bank as well.
I emailed them re debt collection texts again received no response and now Together Energy has gone into administration.

Today I have received a letter from AJJB Law threatening a CCJ the amount still shows the original amount from Together Energy printed on it.
What is the best way to contact AJJB Law telling them the bill has been paid. There is no contact address on the letter, just a telephone number and a www.payajjb.co.uk email.

Can someone advise me of the best way forward with this please?

  • I received one of these letters today despite never being a Together Energy customer. They want £1200 from me!

If you've got proof that you made a payment (bank statement) against the revised bill you don't have anything to worry about. Email AJJB at the emaill address listed on their Contact Us page and explain the situation. They never answer the phone so not sure it's worth spending a future listening to their recorded message.

They have clearly been sent a massive spreadsheet of names, addresses and numbers and they are blindly firing off letters. Their data is clearly out of date or inaccurate. Hopefully they will listen to reason and back-off. Otherwise I am happy to attend court with my house purchase paperwork. AJJB Law won't have a leg to stand on.

    You've done all you can.

Tell them you'll defend the claim when it comes.

    It probably never will
  • I would like to share my experience of AJJB, as I received a similar threat to take me to court on behalf of homeshift energy.  I requested evidence from AJJB, as I could prove evidence that I was signed into a one year fixed rate contract at that time with another supplier. AJJB failed to provide evidence  breaching their responsibility under the FCA consumer credit guidelines but further requested additional unrelated documentation ie tenancy agreement of which was not applicable.  I am very concerned that others similar to myself are being targeted without due cause and unlike myself are not able to produce the required evidence or stand up these unfounded demands. I think we all agree there are enough "bullies" in the world at present. Therefore if you experience similar please do not hesitate  to act and register complaints to the FCA,trading standards, shoul AJJB not be able to supply their evidence in a timely manner. I would also recommend you lodge a SAR request with AJJB where they have to provide you with copies of all the details they hold regards your personal data within 30 days. Failure to do companies can then be  fined once reported to the ISO.

They're regulated by the SRA so complaints go to the Legal Ombudsman

  • @Housetohouse, @MattHawkins, @Pipertypee - do you see these debts or the debt collection attempts on your credit reports?

  • Hello I havent checked my credit report as yet. To be honest I have never had any issue with my credit over 40 + years so I guess I have been lulled in to a false sense of security. Thanks for the heads up , I will see if something has been registered . I guess you can tell I am so annoyed as it seems in these circumstances I am having to spend time proving my innocence.

Exactly how I feel. It's hard enough with inflation on the rampage, but to have to worry about potentially catastrophic problems like a hit to one's credit score feels like adding insult to injury.

Do share what you find on your credit report. I hope it remains pristine. Good luck!

  • Thanks all for the ideas. I have been getting threatening emails for several years now for a transaction that I did not make. I sent the reply below in case it is of use to anyone:

    Dear AJJB law,

Please provide evidence for this failed payment, in line with FCA consumer credit guidelines.

In accordance with the Data Protection Act, I would also like to make a subject access request to know what personal data you hold about me, particularly any personal information related to the alleged failed payment in question. The reason for requesting this is to know whether or not this failed payment relates to myself or an impostor. You may find further information about this from the company that requested your services.
