Npower reps underhanded

I had 2 guys knock on my door, they gave me the impression they were from my current gas and elec supplier, they said if my bill referance started with so******* then i was due 85 pound refund as with most of my neighbours but they do not have my billing details on their sheet.
They asked me for a previous bill to check my ref no then took details from that paper to fill in an application for my refund, they guy asked if he could sit on my step to fill in the details "yes" i said so he entred my house and sat on my staircase, i thought he meant my doorstep.
The other guy also came in and with nothing else to do took a good look at my dvd collection and commented on my choice of movies, they were also asking questions like who's birthday is it as i had a banner further in the house.
By this time i had to take another close look at their badges as i thought they may be casing the joint lol.
They asked me to sign for my refund and then left.
I then found out i had signed a contract for Npower to take over my gas and elec supply!!!!
Needless to say i called immediatly to complain and cancel the contract but imagine how gutted i was then to find out that n-power are the cheapest in my area hahahaha, still knowing that i would have canceled anyway and will go back to them if and when i chose not when there reps have to use underhanded tricks to get my signature.
I am aware that i should look properly through these things before i sign but they chose a busy time to call round, when i first opened the door the first words out of my mouthe were "are you gas or electric suppliers cause i don't want to change" thats when they said "no we are offering refunds for ref no ....ect ect"
Disgusting behaviour if you ask me

Yes absolutely disgusting and you should complain to EnergyWATCH on ) 0845 906 0708 (check say no to 0870 for a cheaper number) or email enquiries@energywatch.org.uk
Npower seem to be the only company that does door to door (at least in my area they are) I always recognise them when they arrive, usually two people with an A4 black writing folder. My first words to them are "what are you selling" They like to answer that with "Not selling anything sir" To which I reply so You're going to give me electricity and gas for free are you? That usually flumaxes them, then I say "not interested" and close the door.
BTW OP
Npower are not really going to be the cheapest in your area - not necessarily, most supply companies supply anywhere in the UK.
Did you go here to do a check?

I found it to be the most user friendly energy saver search site. And I found Equipower&gas (also called EBICo) were the cheapest for me, and they are also socially ethical, and have a simple price structure. and source their electricity from SWALEC who are owned by Scottishand southern energy, and between them they produce quite a lot of their electricity (40% ish) by renewable methods.0 -

We had to call out the police to get rid of a particularly pushy pair of NPower salesbeings. They didn't get past the door because I've had past dealings with them, but they wouldn't take no for an answer and were shouting through the letter box at me! Our neighbour set the Dobermann on them. That was fun
This company are truly, utterly sh!te and I wouldn't give them my custom, I don't care if they are the cheapest.0
