Protecting pipes while boiler is broken

My boiler failed completely over the weekend and it sounds like I'll be waiting at least a week for a replacement. Overnight temperatures are set to drop below freezing here - what do I need to do to protect my house and make sure I don't end up with frozen/burst pipes?

There are hot and cold water tanks in the attic and some uninsulated pipes in the external boiler cupboard I've now ordered lagging for. Would I be safer to drain down the central heating system? Run the cold water taps? Anything else?
