Changed from BGs 12 months ago to Utuilita they wanted me to change over to the new smart meter, I have the old top system meter, with all thats going around about the new smart meters and how they will change again in a couple of years time I decided to stay with my old top up meter,  I ran out of gas tried to activate the emergency supply but it wouldn't switch back on,  so purchased 70 pounds on the top up card, it still wouldn't switch the gas back on so my grandson tried it, the meters set very low down having knee  problems I couldn't see what the meter was saying on the screen (the battery seems to be wearing out as the screen is not very bright) the grandson checked the screen reading it said gas off, so he fed the top up card in then pressed and held the A button as instructed, the meter beeped once he kept his finger on the A button, after what appeared to be ages there was a click, checked the gas on the cooker and found the supply was on, it never used to take so long hold the A button to get the gas back on,  so for the benefit of people using these old meters when you press the A button for the supply keep your finger on the button until it beeps then you hear a click, the audible click tells you that the supplies been reconnected,  thsi process can take up to a minute for the supply to be turned back on.
