We currently have a HP Pavilion 500-436na desktop, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card. I know that it only has a 180w PSU so that may have to be changed as well if possible. Could anyone please advise if this is possible and what to change them to. TIA

You need to change PSU.
What video card you are after?

I just had a quick look online at your system, and its CPU is very under powered, and as you say the PSU is too small.I'm afraid i would be inclined to buy new.You haven't mentioned why you want to change the graphics card, or what you want to do with the system. If your looking at gaming, which i assume due to asking about graphics cards, the current state of the market leads me to suggest to just buy an xbox0

According to hp spec sheets it shipped with optional card on the 180w power supply
Radeon R7 240

Thanks all for replies. The graphics card fan is making a terrible noise so I think it could be on its way out, just wondered how much it would cost to upgrade rather than scrap the base unit?0

What kind of noise? Often they can get pretty clogged up, or sometimes something gets ingested and stuck in there.will-he-payitoff said:Thanks all for replies. The graphics card fan is making a terrible noise so I think it could be on its way out, just wondered how much it would cost to upgrade rather than scrap the base unit?0 -
if you have the exact version of the card there is likely to be a replacement fan available somewhere.

That's if a remove, clean, check does not fix.
Depending on actual card...seem to be plenty of full cards on the second hand market at just OK prices ~£30.
if machine does what is needed then may be worth a bit of time and small amount to keep it going.
