Energy Price Hike

Now I might not be the smartest of people when it comes to understanding tariffs and stuff for Gas and Electricity. However with the prices going up next year and the £200 grant to everyone in October. When is the best time to switch? I have gas with British gas and electricity with Scottish power. Do I wait for April when it increases and I've had the £200 grant or do I change now?

Timing depends on the market. Check prices regularly. If you find a fix cheaper than the April cap, give it strong consideration.

It's not a grant, it's a loan, paid back over the next 5 years. There is an additional £150 discount on council tax, which is a grant, for properties in Bands A to D.

I've heard this is only for people in England though?

As Verdigris says, the £200 is for GB but not NI.
The £150 council tax rebate is only for England but equivalent grants are being given to the devolved administrations.
