Walking in the Lake District although you may have to explain what the strange colours and smells are.  They will be sky, grass and fresh air if they are anything like most teenagers these days.

I'm a Penrith local- sorry I didn't spot your post sooner. May be too late now but for future reference I'd also suggest a visit to the Honister slate mine. The Via Ferrata Xtreme should be right up their street and the mine tour is splendid too.
