Investing in gold, where to start?

if your reason for investing in gold is in case the sky falls in then you need to hold physical gold 'under the mattress' ie buy krugerrands (vat free)1

And if is in reasonably large quantity, make sure nobody knows that you bought physical Gold and noone knows that you hold it in your house. Otherwise you have much more to worry then derogation of your wealth as it is something to do with your life.cx6 said:if your reason for investing in gold is in case the sky falls in then you need to hold physical gold 'under the mattress' ie buy krugerrands (vat free)0 -
So many banned people in that thread lol... why did Bowlhead get banned? what did he do? He always seemed to try to give good input... Its gotten very ban hammer friendly here. You can barely disagree unless you speak to each other like royalty, cant even joke sarcastically it seemseskbanker said:
That brought back memories of a pompous poster who used to say that sort of thing a while ago, but of course any similarity will be purely coincidental....goldvaults12 said:I bought my large gold stocks via my personal bank adviser at my Swiss Bank ( Credit Suisse) and it is safely stored by the bank.

One of the famous Gold Bugs ( also banned) in that old thread said this in Sept 2020
The stock market is in a bubble and could well crash after a final blow-off top
Despite the recent drops , the S&P 500 is nearly one third higher today .
Gold was down in the same period until recently , but even after recent increases it is still only 2.5% up since that time .

The way many accumulate infractions over a long posting history - calling out a couple of other posters in a manner that was considered 'unfriendly'. One has to tread extremely carefully when debunking claims.Zola. said:

I have learnt, after having a post removed, that one must not be personal (obviously) but moreover make it clear that you are not being personal.
For example: "Your ravings sound like the kind of ravings that this kind of group would say. To be clear, I am not saying that the ravings from this kind of group are the same as what you believe though."
Clearly, be a little more polite than using the word "ravings" though

Yes, I also recently decided never to post 'correcting' something that is wrong even if it is wrong. Bit like treading on eggshells at the moment.0

I think it is OK to politely correct a factual error, usually it is well appreciated . However if the poster starts arguing back, or saying daft things it is best to leave alone.cx6 said:Yes, I also recently decided never to post 'correcting' something that is wrong even if it is wrong. And on that bombshell, gold is not an investment at all and if the OP has to ask this forum about how to buy it, maybe they ought not to be.
It's a metal that gets dug up and moved into a vault and somehow that creates economic value.
I dug up my dream of being an astronaut the other day and reburied it under the lettuce patch, the ONS never came round to survey me about how that contributed to GDP.
