I'd try ccleaner to remove as much as possible from start up and remove unwanted programmes then check there aren't multiple av's running. As presumably there's nothing on there you want a new os would be good choice.

You don't need any third party tools to do this. If I were doing this I would just use the built in Windows functionality.Norman_Castle said:I'd try ccleaner to remove as much as possible from start up and remove unwanted programmes then check there aren't multiple av's running. I do like a conclusion to a thread so, I've re-installed windows as per Se1Lad's excellent outline in his post above.
So far it's a success. I did update the bios as well, which may or may not have helped. I've used the laptop to download from the internet and it didn't interfere with any other device on the router like before.
The actual speed of the laptop is much improved, it couldn't get any worse but it needs proper testing once it's loaded with some software and being used.
Thanks for the advice.1 -
Thanks for letting us know the result, and I’m glad my instructions were clear enough to follow! If you find that the laptop requires a further performance boost in the future, a SSD for under £20 as mentioned in my original reply should do the trick.tsb said:I do like a conclusion to a thread so, I've re-installed windows as per Se1Lad's excellent outline in his post above.
