Thing to consider when mounting via window sucker are the heter vents. Avoid having hot air blowing onto the phone/sat-nav.
    Good point.

Thought I would just come back and let people know what I went for in the end. Very pleased with it too I am. Also many thanks for the help here, which was invaluable.

There are so many similar ones, even the Vanmass ones, but this was what sold me on this model ...

I only have a small phone (by today's standards), and am definitely not interested in dabbling with the phone whilst driving, so I reckoned the air vent attachment might well be right. But was not certain, so needed a model with choice of attachment methods. My elderly car has the sort of air vent I've circled, and some models say they would not fit with that combination of horizontal and vertical vanes. But this one fitted my air vent no problem at all.

I also wanted a model with the support underneath, and not just relying on the side grips to stop it falling out, but at the same time allow the charging lead to be plugged in.

For me it works fine in one of the centre air vents. Good visibility, not in way of screen. And not wobbly when driving, though I have done it up pretty firmly. If I dabble it then it moves, but like I say, not an issue for me whilst driving.

The instructions say to attach the bracket to the phone holder first, but I attached to the vent first then the phone holder, because I wanted to see how attached to the vent OK. I then found the phone did not seem to be adjustable through much of an angle at all, which was disappointing because I was looking at it slantwise. But then found I'd not engaged the bracket into the phone holder properly, and when I sorted that it screwed on further and all was fine.

So I've done a few trips with it now and very pleased to have my (almost) free satnav. I'm using Google maps at the moment.

Pretty sure that's the model I have, was bought for me by the OH as a Christmas present. I too have it attached by the vent clip, though I was dubious it would fit until I tried it
