Electric prepayment meter questions

A few questions, I'm on a prepayment electric meter, not a smart one.

1.  I submitted my readings to British Gas last October.  However seems I give them screen G around at present 32394 and all along should be H present it's 31206

I have also started to record these myself on a monthly basis to see what I use and spend.  As I messed it up, should In just carry using screen G?

2.  Also seen someone post on a Facebook group to help people - crazy, top up as much as you can before April, because as you use your key/card again in the meter from the shop, it will put the new rate on. Am I thinking this is bad advice as it will only backtrack?

I just just found out that screen F is my weekly standing charge at £2.02 - dreading what April will become.

H no clue, as I never looked at it before.

Using H would only make sense if you have a 2 rate tariff like E7, in which case you should be giving them H and J.
If G and H are different it would suggest that at some point there was a 2 rate tariff used on the meter, but if yours is single rate and has been since you moved in then G is correct I believe.

Thanks, since moving in the electric meter has been changed though.

Only on single rate at present.

I would stay with G if that is what you have used so far, and you have always been on a single rate tariff with that meter.
  • it doesn’t  really matter what read you give, the info is received when you top up the key. And I believe on old style prepayment meters the tariff will not update until you charge the key 2-3 times so if you put the maximum on before 1st April you should keep the old prices until the credit runs out. Don’t quote me on it though. Doesn’t work for smart PAYG though that just gets downloaded

Have you registered an online account with BG? That'll tell you what tariff you're you're using.
