Am looking for some advise as I cannot get any from SSE
I'm on a pay as you got key meter on economy 7 tariff. I took my night storage heaters out last year and put in normal electric rads in the Hope to come off economy 7 for a cheaper day rate then the energy crisis happened and I've not been able to change tariff!
I am have been paying 21p kwh on day rate and don't use the night rate at all
I'd like to change to a standard tariff but not sure at the moment what to do
I am only there for 3 days a week. I cannot find out tariffs from SSE as you need an account to see and you can't get an account with pay as you go
In the words of the clash......should I stay or should I go???
Many many thanks

Welcome to the forum.21p on day rate is pretty much the current single-rate tariff too.You can see SSE's tariff here; all you need is a postcode, not an account.I'm not entirely sure how you plan to save money by removing your storage heaters and paying more for your heating, but I'm sure it makes sense to you.

How is your water heated? If electrically, this would normally also use the off peak Economy 7 night rate.
With hot water and night storage heaters both on Economy 7, I would expect your bill to be much lower than moving to a single rate tariff used to heat the water and power day time electric panel heaters.
The only time a single rate tariff might work better than Eco7 is if you have a high day time usage that can't be moved into the off peak time window.
Taking out the storage heaters is likely to be a costly error.1 -
The water tank was replaced 2 years ago and the electrition put in water and heating system to get me off the eco7 as I was not in during the day and having to heat house of an eveninglohr500 said:How is your water heated? This was all done before the crisis as I would have gone to 13p per kwh but now that's all changed and I assume my 21p per kwh will increase in April???0 -
On a variable tariff, 21p will become ~28p, an increase of around 1/3rd. Plus your standing charge will increase by about 20p/day (but that will be dwarfed by the extra unit price).Retromental said:This was all done before the crisis as I would have gone to 13p per kwh but now that's all changed and I assume my 21p per kwh will increase in April???
Storage heaters (particulary the recent "high heat retention" HHR models) are meant to hold the heat in all day so they can release it in the evening. If yours weren't, I can understand why you'd want to change them.Retromental said:The water tank was replaced 2 years ago and the electrition put in water and heating system to get me off the eco7 as I was not in during the day and having to heat house of an evening

I believe that The Clash settled this once and for all about 40 years ago.
If you stay you will have double the amount of trouble than if you go. Therefore you should go.0
