ECCO shoes self destructing. Hardly worn but probably seven years old. Fit for purpose?

Even if you could have got round the Statute of Limitations, the most you would be able to claim would be a fraction of the purchase price discounted for the expected life remaining.

if you buy the Ecco, you just might get 2-7 years out of them.
So after 7 years you would not have got very much

Yeah, but that's 2-7 years of USE. I would argue the OP has had practically NO use out of them ;)

Surprised that ECCO are now fobbing off customers affected by their poor choice of inadequate materials, maybe the brand no longer stand behind their products? Wonder why the down-shift in attitude?

    It's not 'now'
ECCO have had the same stance for years.

Has anybody said anything about ECCO fobbing people off?  The OP hasn't said anything about approaching them yet.

As I and at least one other poster has said, there's nothing to be lost approaching ECCO  -  they might give the OP a goodwill gesture.
The OP said: "I have emailed Ecco and they are fobbing me off." -- that's who said it. In post number who-knows-forum-was-redesigned-badly ...

I first suggested contacting ECCO in post number 3, given their positive response to others with this problem. I'm that other poster.

Whoops!  You're right.  My mistake.  Sorry...
  • Maybe "fobbing me off" was too strong. I was told that as I bought them from a shop I would have to complain through a shop. The nearest Ecco shop is some distance from me, and I'm not going to waste more time and money driving over there. I have pointed this out and await their reply. I'll report back when I get a reply.

Legally your consumer rights are with the retailer though so they aren't wrong you need to complain to the shop. However as its been more than six years then you have little chance of anything.

    Indeed.

It's clear in this MSE article:
Consumer rights & protection: get money back - MSE (moneysavingexpert.com)

If it breaks the SAD FART rules, your agreement's with the shop you bought it from, NOT the manufacturer. So the retailer MUST deal with it – don't let it palm you off.

Some good news. I have received the following reply:

"As you no longer have any proof of purchase which is required by law to make a claim, we cannot process your claim nor accept it.
However, as a goodwill, we would like to offer you a 115 GBP discount on a new pair of chosen shoes purchased via our online store gb.ecco.com."

I am really surprised, unusual to see a large corporate entity behave ethically, but good on them.
