  • Thanks for the comments. I particularly enjoyed reading the views of the keyboard warriors casting negative judgement on my wife and my characters from afar.

The jewellers contacted me yesterday having checked their systems to confirm the ring received wasn’t the one my wife and I had chosen together and paid for. They have apologised profusely and have made an offer which we are happy to accept.

They must have read this thread, it's amazing how often that happens.

I'm curious as to what has actually happened.

Do you mean that back in 2003 you thought you were paying for and buying a more expensive ring than the jewellers actually handed over to you, or are you saying that when you brought it in for repair and they said it wasn't platinum, that they were talking about another ring - not yours?

The ring we chose in the jewellers in 2003 was platinum, the receipt said platinum but we were given a white gold one (the ring had to be sized so didn’t get it the same day as it was chosen). Came to light this week when in for repair as the diamond had fallen out

So they sold you the wrong ring in 2003?!

Presumably they are paying you the difference in value...  plus interest!

Are you willing to share what the jeweller offered and you accepted on the basis that you have not named the jeweller so there's no come back on them and also it would help others who may find themselves in a similar predicament.

Yes, they have offered to reset the diamond in the white gold ring and are also giving us a new platinum ring. I have been very impressed by their professionalism and actions since recognising their mistake -it gives me confidence to return as a customer for any future purchases.

I speak as one of those who pontificates and judges from afar.

You should name and praise them - so many bad examples of service that exemplary ones should be singled out.
